Vision Waihi The community based organisation in The Coromandel engaged TLG to complete a feasibility for a proposed gold mining attraction in Waihi and to prepare a funding case for a Major Regional Initiative funded by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. The application achieved its funding target. The study included preparing visitor surveys, analysing the results, developing a visitor and financial model to evaluate the potential viability of the project. |

Hokitika Wildfoods Festival Westland District Council engaged a team of event management specialists, including TLG, to complete a review of the Hokitika Wildfoods Festival, prepare a new strategic direction and develop business and marketing plans for implementation. Extensive market research and community consultation was completed as part of the strategic planning process. Many of the recommendations were implemented and the status of the festival was enhanced. |

Tourism Carrying Capacity Akaroa TLG and Lincoln University completed a Tourism Carrying Capacity (TCC) study for Akaroa. The study identified the key components of a TCC and undertook extensive community and tourism business consultation as well as visitor surveys. Key issues were identified and options to resolve developed. A prioritised recommendation programme was prepared with critical success factors identified. |

Christchurch Visitor Strategy Working with Lincoln University, The Tourism & Leisure Group was involved in the preparation of a Visitor Strategy for Christchurch City. A comprehensive consultative process involving thirteen industry groups identified a series of major projects that could be developed for inclusion in existing Council plans where appropriate or identified as stand alone projects. |

Highway 73 Planning Selwyn District Council engaged TLG to undertake a scoping study of Highway 73 to determine the key issues impacting on the potential for sustainable tourism growth. Consultation took place with many resident groups and interested parties. The study identified a number of issues and a strategic plan was prepared which included renaming the highway as The Great Alpine Highway. |

Punakaiki Development Plan Buller District Council engaged TLG to prepare a development plan for Punakaiki based on the projected growth in tourism to the West Coast. The project involved extensive community consultation and research to identify existing issues and potential solutions. The recommendations covered infrastructure/amenity needs, marketing, visitor information, roading/parking. An implementation group was appointed. |

Ferrymead Historic Park The Christchurch City Council engaged TLG to carry out a review of Ferrymead and make recommendations on its future operation. The study reviewed the attraction from a visitor perspective and also the management and governance of Ferrymead. Recommendations included giving greater responsibility to the management committee and funding to put in place some critical changes that would improve Ferrymead as a visitor attraction. Ferrymead received increased funding following the study. |

Christchurch Visitor Research Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism contracted TLG to survey 580 international and domestic visitors to the city using the Destination Benchmarking methodology developed in the UK and licensed to the Tourism & Leisure Group Limited for their exclusive use in New Zealand and Australia. The report contained information on visitor profile, characteristics of the visit, visitor expenditure and visitor opinions across a wide range of attributes. Results were benchmarked against UK surveys and recommendations made regarding potential opportunities for enhancing the visitor experience. |

Tourism Yield Study Lincoln University engaged TLG to undertake a major proportion of the private sector yield study research for the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand. Over 800 businesses responded to the survey and over 60 were interviewed. The results provided increased understanding of how small business works and how performance could be improved. |

Garden Festivals TLG was engaged by Christchurch City Council to undertake a review of international garden festivals, identify their components, length of festival and funding. Approximately 20 festivals were identified through national tourism sites. A report was prepared that incorporated benefits of garden festivals and key success factors that could be replicated in Christchurch |
